Gluten-Free, Baby Formula and Fast Food Testing from Moms Across America

Moms Across America has tested numerous gluten-free foods, baby formulas and fast foods for toxins, and the results are disturbing!

Many of the brands tested are also found in Canada.

The following is a summary of the food testing results with links to all of the data.

Gluten Free Foods Testing

44 out of 46 of the samples came back positive for glyphosate.

Moms Across America (MAA) has tested 46 samples of gluten-free foods, including bread, pasta, crackers, snacks, flour, dessert mixes, and chips for glyphosate/AMPA, 236 pesticides, minerals, and gluten. The results are disturbing and affect at least 20 million people who eat gluten-free food in America. Around the world, 660 million people avoid gluten. Most have gluten intolerances, but some have Celiac disease, a serious life-threatening condition, and must avoid gluten entirely. People with Celiac have 2-4 X higher rates of coronary artery disease and small bowel cancer. State of Celiac Disease in Canada

Sample of the Findings:

  • 44 out of 46 of the samples came back positive for glyphosate.
  • Out of the 237 pesticides we tested for, glyphosate was the most prevalent.
  • Not all of the gluten-free products that were also organic were the lowest in glyphosate.
  • 21% of the samples were positive for glyphosate at levels higher than 10 ppb, the EU threshold for acceptable glyphosate residues.
  • 100% of the samples contained trace levels or higher of pesticides. 7 samples (15%) contained only trace levels.
  • The highest level of glyphosate in gluten-free food tested was in Banza Chickpea pasta. The level of 2837.19 ppb was the highest amount of glyphosate in human food the lab has ever recorded.
  • Four out of the 46 samples had levels above the FDA allowable 20 ppm of gluten, three had levels of gluten above 10 ppm and should legally be recalled.

Baby Formula Testing

100% of the 40 samples tested contained aluminum and lead.

MAA collaborated with GMOScience and The New MDS to test toxic metals in 40 different baby formulas, and we are extremely dismayed by the results. Unfortunately, none were free from toxic and heavy metals.

Infant formula is a crucial source of nutrition for babies who are not breastfed or is utilized as a supplement to breast-feeding. Ensuring its safety and quality is paramount since infants are particularly vulnerable to contaminants due to their developing biological systems. Toxic metals such as aluminum, lead, arsenic, cadmium, and mercury pose significant health risks. Chronic exposure to these metals, even in small amounts, can lead to developmental issues, cognitive impairments, and other serious health conditions. Hence, studying the presence of these toxic metals in infant formula is vital to safeguard the health and well-being of infants.

Sample of the Findings:

  • 100% of the 40 samples tested contained aluminum and lead.
  • 80% of samples had lead levels higher than the EPA allowable levels for drinking water.
  • 57% of the samples tested positive for arsenic, 55% for mercury, and 35% for cadmium.
  • At 41,000 ppb, aluminum levels in a goat’s milk baby formula were 4000 – 40,000 X higher than other metals in the formulas tested and exceed limits set by the FDA for maximum safety level of aluminum for a preemie.

Fast Food Testing

100% of the Top 20 fast food brands contain heavy metals, lead and cadmium.

In October 2023, with help from many supporters including Children’s Health Defense, MAA conducted extensive testing on the Top 20 of America’s most popular fast food chains–many of the same chains are available in Canada.

The brands were tested for glyphosate herbicide, as well as 236 agrochemicals, PFAS, phthalates, and mineral content. The top 10 brands were additionally tested for 104 commonly used veterinary drugs and hormones, B Vitamins and calories.

Of the 42 samples tested for arsenic, cadmium, lead, and mercury, 100% of the samples, which were purchased at different locations nationwide, contained alarming levels of cadmium and lead.

Sample of the Findings:

  • 100% of the fast food samples tested contained alarming levels of cadmium. The levels of cadmium were between 74%-1158% higher than what the EPA allows in drinking water.
  • 100% of the 42 fast food samples tested had trace amounts or higher of lead.
  • Even low levels of lead in blood have been shown to negatively affect a child’s intelligence, ability to pay attention, and academic achievement.
  • Arsenic was also detected in 17% of the fast food samples.

100% of the Top 20 fast food brands contain glyphosate herbicide and 76% tested positive for harmful pesticides.

The 42 samples were also tested for glyphosate. Glyphosate is the most widely used herbicide in the world, 280 million pounds are sprayed on food and animal feed crops every year.  It has been shown by Monika Kruger et al. to accumulate in animal tissues, and bone tendons and be present in thousands of grocery store food samples. A study by Paul J Mills et al showed higher levels of glyphosate in humans to be linked to higher levels of chronic disease.

Agrochemicals such as glyphosate have also been proven to negatively impact the gut microbiome, which is the stronghold of not only the immune system, but is where Serotonin and Melatonin are localized, important hormones that influence mood, sleep, and risks of developing depression, violent and obsessive behaviour, suicidal and homicidal thoughts and actions.

Sample of the Findings:

  • 100% of Top 20 Fast Food brands contained alarming glyphosate residues.
  • The highest levels detected, 213.58 ppb and 225.53 ppb, totaling 439.11 in two samples, were in Panera Bread, a self-proclaimed proprietor of “good food” and “clean, wholesome foods.”
  • The second highest levels of glyphosate were found in Arby’s sandwiches, 124.2 and 99 ppb, totaling 223.33 ppb of glyphosate. Dairy Queen and Little Caesar’s were nearly tied for third highest, at 126 ppb and 128 ppb total glyphosate detected, respectively.
  • The lowest levels were found in Chipotle meals, totaling 4.65 ppb for both samples, a whopping 94.4 times lower than the highest level, 439.11 ppb detected in Panera Bread.
  • 27 different pesticides were found in fast food samples.
  • 76% of fast food brands (61% of the total 42 samples) contained at least trace of these 27 harmful pesticides.
  • Several fast foods contained as many as 7, 8 or 9 different pesticides.
  • The highest levels were found in Domino’s and Pizza Hut pizza ( pizza with vegetables had the highest amounts).

MIT Senior Scientist and Author of Toxic Legacy How the Weedkiller Glyphosate Is Destroying Our Health and the Environment, Stephanie Seneff, PhD. reviewed the results and stated:

“It is highly disturbing that it takes action from an advocacy group operating on a shoestring budget to establish quantitative data that glyphosate is pervasive, often at alarmingly high levels, in foods commonly sold at fast food restaurants around the country. Many Americans rely on fast foods as a significant part of their diet. It is no wonder why so many Americans are obese, and the autism rates are so high.” – Stephanie Seneff Ph.D.

Author of What’s Making our Children Sick, Pediatrician of 40 years, Author of a new article titled “The State of Our Children’s Health,” and Host of ‘The New MDS,’ Dr. Michelle Perro stated:

“In essence our children and their families are consuming a toxic time bomb daily without any oversight or accountability.” – Dr. Michelle Perro

Lawyer/President of Canadian charity Safe Food Matters fighting Health Canada’s PMRA in federal court over glyphosate, Mary Lou McDonald stated:

“Our food is contaminated because chemicals are everywhere. Pesticides have saturated farmlands and drift further than thought. There is no more clean soil. Pesticides move right into our food source; right into the chickpeas, cereals, peas, beans, and grains we eat. They bring with them heavy metals like cadmium and arsenic. We know all this. Conclusion? The use of chemicals on food crops is unconscionable.”  – Mary Lou McDonald

In Canada we have a 10-fold safety factor for infants and children that is supposed to be used in all of our dietary risk assessments and that can’t be reduced without valid scientific rationale. According to Safe Food Matters, the PMRA reduces it to a 1 consistently, ignoring the law. This is part of their lawsuit against the regulatory agency.
