Alberta Premier Danielle Smith Supports Medical Freedom with Bill of Rights Update

New Legislation to Safeguard Personal Medical Choices

Premier Danielle Smith has announced a major update to Alberta’s Bill of Rights, set to take effect this fall. The new legislation will guarantee Albertans’ right to make their own medical decisions, including the freedom to refuse vaccinations.

At a recent town hall in Bonnyville, Smith detailed her plan to enhance personal freedoms. This update marks a departure from her earlier proposal to amend the Alberta Human Rights Act to prevent employment termination based on vaccination status. Instead, the focus has shifted to strengthening the Bill of Rights for more comprehensive protection of medical choices.

Smith also aims to eliminate vaccine mandates at post-secondary institutions, citing concerns over their adverse effects on students’ education and mental health. The proposed changes reflect a strong commitment to preserving individual rights and freedoms in Alberta.
