Tumbler Ridge Shooting: Our Hearts Are With the Families
All of us at Children’s Health Defense Canada are holding the families and the Tumbler Ridge, B.C. community in our hearts following the devastating February 10, 2026 tragedy.
This tragic event marks one of the deadliest mass shootings in recent Canadian history and the deadliest school shooting in decades.
The RCMP has publicly confirmed the identities of those whose lives were taken.
Victims from Tumbler Ridge Secondary School
• Abel Mwansa, age 12
• Ezekiel Schofield, age 13
• Kylie Smith, age 12
• Zoey Benoit, age 12
• Ticaria Lampert, age 12
• Shannda Aviugana-Durand, age 39
Victims from a Residence on Fellers Avenue
• Emmett Jacobs, age 11
• Jennifer Jacobs, age 39
These are not just victims of a news event. They are irreplaceable children, beloved family members and lives that mattered.
At CHD Canada, we speak every day about protecting children — their health, their rights and their futures. Tragedies like this remind us, in the most painful way, how fragile those futures can be.
There are already many conversations and disagreements surrounding the incident and the circumstances unfolding. Today, we simply extend our deepest condolences to the families who have lost loved ones and to everyone in Tumbler Ridge carrying this profound loss.
