Key Figures Resign from World’s Oldest Breastfeeding Charity Over Gender Ideology Shift
Two prominent leaders at La Leche League GB (LLLGB), the UK branch of La Leche League (LLLI), the world’s oldest breastfeeding charity, have resigned, accusing the organization of betraying its core mission to support biological women. Miriam Main, a trustee and PR director, and Marian Tompson, a founding member of the global movement, criticized the charity’s decision to allow men—specifically transgender women—into breastfeeding support groups.
Main who said she refused to help biological men “perform a poor imitation of breastfeeding”, said the policy was a threat to babies’ safety, while Tompson, 94, decried it as a departure from the organization’s original focus on supporting mothers. Both women expressed frustration over the growing influence of gender ideology, which they believe undermines the charity’s commitment to biological women and mothers.
This shift has sparked tension within LLLGB, with many volunteers concerned that including men in women-only spaces could alienate mothers and harm the charity’s mission. The resignations highlight the ongoing clash between protecting sex-based services and accommodating gender inclusivity.
