Dr. Vinay Prasad Replaces Ousted Peter Marks as FDA’s Top Vaccine Regulator
Dr. Vinay Prasad, a prominent critic of COVID-19 vaccine mandates and the government’s pandemic response, has taken over as director of the FDA’s Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research (CBER), replacing Dr. Peter Marks — the architect of Operation Warp Speed. The appointment signals a significant change in vaccine oversight at a time when public trust in public health institutions remains fractured.
Praised by FDA Commissioner Dr. Marty Makary for his scientific rigor and independence, Prasad has called the continued recommendation of COVID-19 shots for children “absurd” and supports removing the vaccine from the CDC’s childhood schedule — a view shared by HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Prasad also wants new randomized trials before approving updated COVID vaccines, a move that sent shockwaves through the pharmaceutical sector, with Moderna, Pfizer and smaller biotech stocks tumbling.
However, not everyone is cheering. Dr. Mary Talley Bowden, known for challenging mainstream COVID-19 protocols, criticized the appointment, expressing concerns that Prasad, despite his recent alignment with reform efforts, may not go far enough in confronting entrenched regulatory corruption. Bowden and others in the health freedom movement have previously noted Prasad’s past support for the initial COVID vaccine rollout, calling his shift in tone too little, too late.
Still, the transition at CBER may mark a turning point. With Prasad’s deep academic background and history of challenging flawed science, many are watching closely to see if this will bring real accountability and higher safety standards — or if the reforms will stall under pressure from inside the FDA.
