“ISPA Parent Playbook” Challenges Ontario’s Vaccine School Suspension Policies
Scientist Dr. David Speicher is raising concerns about Ontario’s school suspension process under the provincial Immunization of School Pupils Act (ISPA).
Drawing from his own family’s experience navigating suspension notices and exemption requirements, Speicher argues the system prioritizes compliance over informed consent, parental rights and medical privacy.
His article comes as Waterloo Region Public Health suspended more than 1,300 elementary students over out-of-date vaccine records on May 7, with thousands more previously receiving warning notices under ISPA enforcement measures.
In a new Substack article, Speicher outlines what he calls an “ISPA Parent Playbook” for families dealing with vaccine-related suspension notices, exemption procedures and interactions with public health authorities. He also examines concerns surrounding medical information disclosure and the pressure some parents say they experience when responding to school immunization demands.
The article provides a good overview of Ontario’s ISPA framework while encouraging parents to better understand their rights and options before sharing personal medical information or responding to suspension notices.
