Roundup® Class-Action Lawsuit Certified in Canada: What You Need to Know

A national class-action lawsuit against Monsanto Canada ULC (now Bayer CropScience Inc.), Monsanto Company, and Bayer Inc. —makers of the widely used herbicide Roundup—has officially been certified by the Ontario Superior Court of Justice. The case, which was originally filed in June 2019, alleges that glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup and similar herbicides, is linked to Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma (NHL)—a serious cancer of the blood and lymphatic system.

The lawsuit also claims that the companies failed to adequately warn users about the potential risks and misrepresented the safety of their glyphosate-based products. The representative plaintiff was diagnosed with NHL at age 17 and attributes his illness to Roundup exposure. He is seeking a total of $1.2 billion in damages, including compensation for pain and suffering, family impact and punitive damages.

A review by the University of Washington found that agricultural professionals exposed to glyphosate have a 41% higher risk of contracting Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma than those with low or no exposure. It is getting harder and harder for Bayer to claim that this product is “perfectly safe” and does not cause cancer. There is overwhelming proof that it does.

🧾 Who is included in the lawsuit?

The certified class includes:

  • All individuals in Canada who had Significant Exposure to Roundup prior to December 8, 2023, and

  • Were diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma (NHL) after their exposure, but before December 8, 2023

Significant Exposure means applying glyphosate-based herbicides more than two times in a single year, and more than 10 times in your lifetime.

In addition, close family members—including spouses, children, grandchildren, parents, grandparents, and siblings—of those diagnosed may also be included in the class.

⚠️ Opt-Out Deadline: July 17, 2025

Anyone who qualifies is automatically included in the class action and does not need to take any action to participate.

However, individuals who do not wish to be part of the lawsuit must submit a written request to opt out by July 17, 2025.
