After Public Outcry, PHAC Announces Evaluation for Vaccine Injury Support Program

PHAC Responds to Criticism

Following public criticism over delays and unresolved claims, the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) has announced plans to develop an independent evaluation mechanism for the federal Vaccine Injury Support Program (VISP). This initiative is part of the 2025–2030 Interim National Immunization Strategy, aiming to enhance privacy, equity, and timely compensation for individuals affected by vaccine-related injuries.

Launched in June 2021, VISP provides financial support to Canadians experiencing serious or permanent vaccine injuries, including life-altering disabilities and death. However, the program has faced significant criticism, with many applicants reportedly waiting years for decisions. As of June 2025, approximately 1,700 of 3,100 claims remained unresolved.

Currently administered by third-party provider Oxaro, the program is set to transition to direct federal management after Oxaro’s contract concludes on March 31, 2026.

CHD Canada continues to advocate for transparency, accountability, and expedited support for Canadians harmed by vaccines.
