Biden White House Edited Messaging on Stroke Risk Following Pfizer COVID Shots

Newly released U.S. Senate records show federal health officials detected a stroke safety signal following Pfizer’s COVID shot—but delayed warning the public and altered messaging to minimize concern.

Documents released by Sen. Ron Johnson reveal that as early as November 2022, vaccine safety surveillance systems identified a statistically significant increase in ischemic stroke among adults aged 65 and older following Pfizer’s COVID booster.

Despite this, officials did not immediately alert the public. Instead, internal communications show coordination between the White House and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) focused on managing messaging while continuing to promote uptake.

According to Johnson’s investigation, the CDC’s Vaccine Safety Datalink flagged a safety signal beginning November 27, 2022, with repeated alerts in the weeks that followed. Reporting by The Epoch Times and CHD’s The Defender confirms the signal persisted for months.

By early 2023, internal data showed:

  • Dozens of early stroke reports, including deaths
  • Continued signals across multiple surveillance systems
  • Approximately 226 reported stroke cases following Pfizer’s booster by February 2023

An ischemic stroke occurs when a blood clot blocks blood flow to the brain and can be fatal.

Messaging Edited, Risk Downplayed

Records show that in January 2023, the White House edited a CDC draft communication about the stroke signal.

“Moderately elevated” was changed to “slightly elevated.”

According to both Johnson’s findings and reporting by The Epoch Times, the revision reduced the perceived severity of the risk.

According to Children’s Health Defense senior research scientist Karl Jablonowski, Ph.D., the data did not support minimizing the risk. He noted that adults 65+ who received Pfizer’s booster had more than double the risk of ischemic stroke compared to those who did not receive the shot.

No Warning, Continued Promotion

Despite months of safety signals, federal agencies did not issue an immediate public warning.

Reporting from The Defender shows officials waited roughly two months before drafting a communication plan that even mentioned the stroke signal.

During that same period:

  • COVID shots continued to be promoted as safe and effective
  • No precaution was issued for higher-risk populations
  • Public messaging remained unchanged

Johnson said officials continued urging uptake despite emerging risks.

The delay in disclosure—and the decision to downplay the signal—raises serious informed consent concerns. Without timely and transparent risk information, individuals cannot properly weigh potential harms.

Jablonowski emphasized that informed consent requires full access to safety data—something he says was not provided.

The documents add to a broader pattern identified across multiple investigations. According to The Defender, officials delayed warnings about myocarditis, revised research downplaying reported deaths, and monitored safety signals internally while maintaining reassuring public messaging.

Together, these findings raise serious questions about transparency, risk communication and public trust.

Johnson has obtained millions of pages of records related to COVID-19 shot safety and federal communications. He is seeking additional documents and requesting testimony from officials involved.

Further disclosures are expected.

Why This Matters in Canada

Canada relied on the same Pfizer COVID shots and similarly promoted booster uptake in older adults.

Health Canada and provincial health authorities did not issue public warnings about a stroke safety signal in older adults during this period, raising questions about whether Canadian officials were aware of similar data—or relied on U.S. guidance that was incomplete or downplayed.

If known risks were not transparently communicated, Canadians—like Americans—have been denied full informed consent. Informed consent is not optional—it is a fundamental right.
